JEFFERSON HOTEL - Wawarsing
Does anyone have information on the Jefferson Hotel, later called the Glen Briar? My uncles Max (Mischy) and Lenny Levine were the owner and head chef, respectively. Max together with his wife, Lillian nee Horowitz, ran the hotel from the 1920s to about the mid-60s. The hotel property abutted Willow Lake, and all that remains is the brick wall: no buildings, not even the handball court. There was a children's camp, Camp Navajo. D. FANNIE SCHAFER'S VEGETARIAN HOTEL -- Woodridge
I went to "The Veg" almost every summer as a kid, and my father, who passed away earlier this year, was a regular there as early as the 1940s. It wasn't a fancy place, but the food was amazingly good and healthy and it drew a diverse, interesting crowd. The last time I was there was as an adult, a few weeks before it closed in 1987. Anybody else remember the lectures under the Tree of Knowledge? The home-made cheese? The mossy lake? The postage stamp-sized pool? Got photos? Thanks, Mason Resnick f8at250sec@yahoo.com.

PALACE HOTEL--Parksville
My grandparents, Harry & Rose Landberg, owned the Palace Hotel from about 1944 to 1952. It was on the 4 corners of roads leading to Parksville, Liberty, Bradley and Neversink. During the war my mother was the bellhop because we couldn't get young men for the job. My dad was the hotel accountant, my grandfather bought the food, was the head waiter, played the piano & told jokes in the casino. My grandmother did most of the cooking & baking. I was the kids' counselor (10 yrs. old) and sang on the casino stage to the piano accompaniament of my mother, Mollie. My dad, Max, also sang . My sister Jacki, who was a toddler, picked the blueberries for the pies. Who out there remembers our hotel? Who might have pictures? We do, but don't know the names of those in them. Our bands were made up of CCNY boys who went on to bigger & better ! hotels. One example was Marty Werbel. Two families that were returnees were the Tabacks and the Sakowitzes, with kids my age. The Melody Country Club was down the road. I'd love to hear from people with memories of the Palace Hotel. I now sing in the N.Y. and Boca Raton, Fla. areas. P.S. GRAND MOUNTAIN HOTEL--Greenfield Park
Owned by Abe & Harriet Steinhorn. They had a son, Harvey who sometimes worked as a waiter. Their daughter, Amy was a teenager in the early 70's and sometimes worked in the coffee shop. This hotel was popular because for the Saturday night late show they had strippers. People came from other hotels/bungalow colonies to see the show. Admission was free but you had to buy a drink or two. Abe's father was still around in the early 70's and was taken care of by Spencer, who was mister everything around the hotel. Around 1970, 71 or 72, the MC for the summer was a young man named Alan Paul. When Grease first opened on Broadway, he was in the original cast and on the original cast album. He went on to be part of the famous vocal group 'The Manhattan Transfer'. The main house burned down sometime during the winter (1973?). The dining room and lobby was then rebuilt as part of another building. Abe & Harriet went on to help out at The Aladdin Hotel in Woodbourne sometime in the mid 70's. Mrs. Komito (owner of Aladdin) was still around then and she hoped that Abe & Harriet would bring some of their guests from the Grand Mt. to The Aladdin. For awhile, it worked. Anyone remember Abe & Harriet either at The Grand Mountain. or Aladdin, contact me, Allan cindyannie@att.net

SACKETT LAKE
I am looking for anyone who remembers Sackett Lake - home of the Laurels Country Club, owned by the Novak Family. From the time I was about 9 years of age, my family spent our summers at the bungalow colony named "Terrace Gardens" owned by the Cohen family. Mr. and Mrs. Cohen had two sons, Sam and Loen and two daughters, Ethel and Jean. I had some of the best times of my life in Sackett Lake. I danced my way through the hotel "champagne nights" with my partner Marty and fell in love several times (ahh, the Belmore waiters!). Where are they now??? I remember Stan and Bernie Weissman (Warren), whose family owned the Congress Hotel and also a hotel in Miami. Love and knishes to all the Catskill people who read this. SUNNYLAND HOTEL -- Parksville/Bobby Darin
I am seeking information on Sunnyland Hotel in Parksville in the 1950s. This hotel, which was owned by Mr. & Mrs. Coccus, might have continued in business for many years or even decades. I am working on a TV special for the A&E Network series "Biography" on BobbyDarin, singer/songwriter/actor/political activist. I am looking for information on the Sunnylands hotel because Bobby Darin worked there during the Summers of 1951 & 1952. It was at the Sunnylands that Darin made his debut at a professional performer. Gertrude Newmark, day-camp director for the Sunnylands, was responsible for getting Darin the job. Darin became quite close with Mr. & Mrs. Newmark and their children, Laurel & Eddie. I give you all this information with the hopes that you can help me track the Sunnylands and or any of the people I¹ve mentioned: the Coccus¹ and the Newmarks.
Kind regards,

ECHO HOTEL -- Greenfield Park
Looking for former waiters, busboys, and other hotel staff from the Echo Hotel in Ellenville(Greenfield Park). I worked the dining room from 1972 through 1974. Anyone who was there around that time would understand what we all experienced and how those weekends and summers working at the Echo Hotel profoundly shaped our lives. I am attempting to write a story about those times. I have been in touch with some key characters of that period who continue to be my life long friends. However, I am looking for more people from that era. Anyone with stories to share or who wishes to say hello please contact Mark Cohen at mkcohen@ix.netcom.com. There are many long lost friends that can complete the picture of what took place and help share this history with others.
